Position OverviewAs a Clinical Forensic Mental Health Counseling Intern, you will gain direct experience working withboth law enforcement officers and court-mandated domestic violence clients. Interns will co-facilitategender-specific Duluth-Model domestic violence groups, participate in forensic case management,and engage in clinical work with first responders under the supervision of the Domestic ViolenceCoordinator and Forensic Services leadership team.This internship provides a balanced experience across individual counseling, group facilitation,assessment, and interagency collaborationKey ResponsibilitiesClinical and Forensic PracticeConduct intakes and assessments to evaluate mental health needs, including trauma,substance use, relational stress, and work-related adjustment.Provide individual counseling using evidence-based, trauma-focused interventions.Co-facilitate domestic violence intervention groups alongside licensed clinicians(gender-specific).Develop and facilitate law enforcement wellness groups focused on stress management,coping with trauma, relationship health, and retirement preparation.Maintain accurate, confidential documentation of assessments, sessions, and groupfacilitation.Forensic Coordination and Systems CollaborationAssist in preparing documentation for court, parole, and probation reporting.Work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary forensic team to ensure compliance with judicialtimelines.Support the divisions marketing and outreach initiatives to courts, parole, and probationdepartments as part of Calm Seas Forensic Campaign.Program Development and EvaluationParticipate in supervision, case reviews, and professional development seminars.Contribute to program evaluation by tracking engagement and outcomes within the forensicand law enforcement populations.QualificationsCurrently enrolled in or recently graduated from a Clinical Forensic Mental Health Counseling(FMHC), Social Work, or Counseling Psychology program.Strong interest in law enforcement, forensic populations, trauma, and domestic violenceintervention.Coursework or experience in assessment, counseling, and group facilitation preferred.Knowledge of evidence-based and trauma-informed practices in forensic mental health.Excellent communication, organization, and documentation skills.Professional demeanor and commitment to ethical standards and confidentiality.Previous experience in a forensic, clinical, or law enforcement setting is preferred but notrequired.BenefitsSupervision and mentorship from licensed forensic clinicians and Duluth-Modeltrainedfacilitators.Hands-on experience working with both law enforcement officers and court-mandatedclients.Exposure to multidisciplinary collaboration across mental health, probation, and judicialsystems.Participation in internal and external forensic training opportunities.Eligibility for academic credit and potential stipend opportunities for extended placement.Contribution to the mental health and resilience of those who protect and serve ourcommunities.
